About Florida Boat Cost
Florida Boat Cost is an independent website that helps people understand the real cost of owning and running a boat in Florida before they buy, and keep costs under control after they do.
Who we are
The site is written and maintained by a small independent editorial team of Florida boaters and researchers. The same team publishes Florida Cost Calculator, which covers home improvement and hurricane-hardening costs, and Central FL Mobile RV, a guide and directory for RV owners. We are not marine surveyors, mechanics, insurance agents, lenders, tax advisers or lawyers, and we do not present ourselves as such.
How we build estimates
We separate two kinds of numbers:
- Official figures, such as Florida vessel registration and title fees, which we take directly from primary sources like the FLHSMV fee chart and Florida Statutes, and cite on the page.
- Planning estimates, such as slip rates, insurance premiums, service costs and lift prices, which we build from published price information such as marina rate sheets, dealer service menus, contractor price pages and industry publications. These are labeled as estimates, shown with their assumptions, and should be checked against real quotes.
Regional adjustments in our calculators are editorial judgments, not survey data, and we say so on each calculator.
Independence
We are not paid by marinas, dealers, insurers, lenders or service providers to change numbers or recommendations. The site is supported by advertising, including Google AdSense, and advertisers have no say in our content.
Corrections and updates
Fees, laws and prices change. If you spot something outdated or wrong, or have a recent quote that falls well outside our ranges, please contact us. We review pages regularly and update them when sources change.
